I was wondering - can anyone suggest a solution to this problem.

The colling fan on my graphics card is making the most irritating noise, like a dried up old lawn mower or something. It sounds like its dried up, so I took the card out (nVidia TNT2) and took the fan off (only about 2-3cm square - small to making all that noise!!) and squirted it with WD-40 until it was dripping. Dried the excess, and put it back in. Now its even worse!!

Is this fan 100% needed? If not, can I just take it out and leave it out. If I need to get a new one, where can I get one from, as the nvidia site says to go back to the manufacturor of the PC, and that just isnt possible.

And advice would be much appreciated!!
Cheers,
Chris :)

Heres where you can get another one from (providing it is AGP slot and not PCI)

Can't see a fan on it though? Even the voodoo3dfx hasn't got a fan? I am rumbled with the fan problem I am afraid :o

Well trust me, ITS THERE!!

I didn't realise this card was so cheap, even so, i'd rather not buy a new card it when its working perfectly, and run all the games etc that I want it to fast enough etc.

Sorry cheeze, I wasn't doubting you - I never knew they had fans because I haven't seen one on the voodoo, however, only had a peek at the voodoo a few weeks ago when I wanted to clean inside the case. :)

Didn't notice one on the savage either, having said that it is only 8mb  and I didn't bother to scan it, I just installed it! :lol

Now I know what to look for if something doesn't sound right in the graphics card department :)

You learn something new everyday :D

That is what I like the best about life ;)

If you are feeling brave enough you can gently pull the fan from off the bearing .Clean all the gunge up inside the sleeve and around the bearing .Add a small splash of oil and push it back together carefully. If that don't work then the bearing is knakked .
Measure the size of the fan and order a new one from a good overclocking site that knows what they're talking about.
