Having spent all afternoon reading reviews on european site (using google translate) i am on the verge of cancelling my order before its too late!
It seems many people have had many problems with them and the dont work too good with VIA chipsets

sorry i didnt get chance to say more i had to go out in a rush!
Basically everyone was saying it kept failing while burning on the fly, it took ages to recognise a CD, the burnproof only worked half the time, seek times were awefull, it didnt like VIA chipsets.
I have cancelled my order BUT this is only because i have a CD burner thats OK to start with. Depending on how other people get on i might get one at a later date but i deffo want to know more about it! the bad stuff seemed to out way the good stuff by a ratio of around 6 to 1!

A very detailed review in that link, jonathan. I wish more reviews could be like that!
John your thoughts seem to contradict that review... looking at it I would rush out and buy one but I don't have any money :lol
How much is this possibly good/possibly bad drive?

Hi John
Thanks for the reply. After reading your post and the link
that Jonathan posted (thanks for that posting Jonathan) I'm totally
confused, however I don't think I'll cancel my order.
Can you tell me what VIA chipsets are, also burning on the fly
Regards Dave
Via chipset = AMD athlon/duron mobo
on the fly = recording on the CDRW while reading data from the othe CD
price from buy.com = about seventy quid ish

For £70 that's pretty darn good, packing Burnproof technology and decent speeds etc...

What's wrong with AMD? I feel they're better than P4s.

HI Synergy Blades
Nothing wrong with AMD,I was
just commenting on the earlier posting by Bluetack
on Liteon CD RW. If I thought there was something
wrong I would never have bought one

Not having read the reports that John has , but it looks like it's a burning on the fly issue . If that's the case ,all you have to do is use the copy the CD to the HD first option .It may take a little longer ,but you'll get the same result as a top of the range plextor with a little patience.
btw . I forgot to mention BEFORE you ordered the new puter . Make sure it's got a spare slot for the cdrw ;)

You have been ripped off if you bought the lite-on £70ish. It only costed me £57.85  And that includes VAT, delivery (do not know when), Nero software, Burn-Proof technology, 10 CDR and 1 CD-RW.
I would not think it is the bust burner but who can complain for that price? On the other hand buy.com is trying to leave a good mark on the internet after buying the site and I am quite sure that John Lewis will not hesitate to refund it if I find that it is a complete mess!It comes with a guarantee anyway, so what is the fuss?

Right people, sorry for the confusion! I ALREADY HAVE A CD BURNER (which came above the liteon in the tests i have seen, with a slower speed and no burnproof) AND AS I DONT COPY COMMERTIAL SOFTWARE DO NOT NEED THE FACILITYS THE LITEON OFFERS!
As i said the liteon got loads of bad reviews, its also got some good ones, but there were more bad than good! if you aint never had a burner you wont notice the difference! but i would be going backwards!
Not all AMD CPU's use a VIA chipset! most do but this may have been fixed in the latest firmware available from liteon!
I could not afford to take the risk! maybe you can? like i said i have a CD burner that works!
57 quid is top value and i hope it works 100% belter, i realy do (prob will)! like i said i just felt uneasy, a personal view!
An extra 30 quid on a creative (re-badged plex) wouldnt go a miss! but cash is a funny thing! you either have or have not got it!

....or have a look at the link I left in the original cdrw topic
£109 including VAT for a TDK cyclone that is a rebnadged Plextor - brilliant burner. :)
I didn't know a creative was a re-badged plex John? I thought it was creatives own, I was looking at that drive a few days ago, and it seems fine BTW, but I am over happy with the cyclone :)
If you don't need the burnproof John then I would keep the one you have if you are happy with it, but it would be a good investment. I haven't read the review on the Lite-on yet, but you are guaranteed your money back if you are not happy. As Nig says, do an image file first peeps if there is a prob with on the fly. Personally, I never burn on the fly if I can help it, I always do an image :)

i always go on the fly :lol
If its that price now, i would imagine its hit rock bottom as far as price is relevant, i will wait untill mine is clapped out and get one then.
Want to change your creative burner back to a Plex?
