I have about 10 dvd disc's, they all play ok on my pc. but today i put mission impossible 2 in and it will not play properly. all i get are scramble lines going across. i have checked for scratches but cannot see any

this happened once before with the world is not enough and i changed it and it still happend so i just took it back, but i have watched mission impossible several times so why should it go wrong i know it is not my pc as all the other films play ok. does anybody have any ideas

DVD's store a lot of data on them. If there are imperfections on the DVD - fingerprints, scratches, dust etc the lasers can get confused. Similarly, if the mechanism which picks up the DVD doesn't get it quite right or if the DVD gets slightly warped due to poor storage, you may get "jitter" - this can sometimes be fixed if you eject the DVD and re-insert.

Other problems may occur if the DVD playing software has been updated or Windows Update has replaced some files previously used by the DVD software.

Are the DVDs all Region 2 ? Or do you have a mix of Regions ? - your DVD player's Region lock may have been activated (although you usually get a "Wrong region" statement on screen)
