Does anyone use a decent spam remover for OE6 for use on Xp (and ME) that works?

In the last few months the amount of spam that I have been receving on my (non AOL) email accounts has risen alarmingly, The problem is (I believe) that I do have some very short email addys and I think that the spammers just guess the parts before the domain.

What I want is something that insures that the spam is not even D/L by OE and is preferably bounced back to the sender! I believe that Mailwasher may do this? has anyone tried it?

I do set spam filters in OE but of course the spam is still D/L.

Bouncing spam might help if the message return information points to a real account, that belongs to the spammer, which they actually check. The chances of that are slim.

"I do set spam filters in OE but of course the spam is still D/L"

There are actions to "Do not download it from the server" and "Delete it from the server", if you're confident the filter will never have a false positive.

Or if you prefer a simpler approach, use something like Spamweed (www.spamweed.com). It'll work as a proxy with OE6 and handle all your accounts immediately, & there's no filters to worry about either. You will need to train the program to pick out spam, but it should give fairly good results immediately.

Mailwasher is excellent - I use it all the time. You can preview mail whilst it's still on the server and bounce it back to the sender if you want (so it looks like a real mailer daemon(sp?)). Nothing will ever really stop spam, but it's very quick and easy to click a delete or bounce box and get rid of it thereby stopping it clogging up your computer :)

I'm using mailwasher pro and it seems to slow my computer down to snail-pace.

Anyone else had that problem?

It shouldn't slow your computer down at all TBH - mine's very quick to connect and disconnect. Try a rummage through the settings and see if anything is set up oddly - can't think of anything else that might cause it to affect your computer adversely.

Certainly don't notice it slowing mine down at all, and I'm checking ten accounts at once with it.

cheez-
Have a look at the spam throttle in mailwasher (tools-options).The higher this is set the slower the mailcheck will be.

Its at the lowest I think (downloads the least lines).

Its weird, I'm not sure which is to blame. I just know it only happens when mailwasher is working.

I *always* have music playing while i'm at my computer, and its windows media that, after a while, starts to stutter and becomes unresponsible and kills the whole machine.

The mem usage is about 50mb and the CPU number ranges from 50-70. is this normal?

This is becoming pretty annoying!!

Chris :)
