View Full Version : Phantam net activity. Kazaa Lite?

I've recently noticed something odd. My net connection seems very slow. If I'm connected to the net then I close all applications (IE, Outlook Express etc.) then on my "Connection Status" there is still activity (data being sent and received). Is this normal? Is there an application using my net connection when they all seem to be closed?

I've recently installed Kazaa Lite. Is this the problem? Does it continue to run in the background even after you've closed it?

Using:
Windows XP
IE 6
Outlook Express 6
Connected to NTL Dial-up using NTLFreedom dialer.

Thanks for any advice.
Martin

Quite, and is available to others to D/l from your pc whilst you are connected, just right click the icon and close when you have finished with it yourself.

I meant system tray BTW, in case there was confusion

Solved it.

Sorry to be thick but was does it mean if the proggie is still running in the system tray?

If I close Kazaa Lite it seems to be closed. If I cntrl/alt/delete then I get Windows Task Manager and click on "Applications" it doesn't appear to be running (but there is still Phantom data flowing).

When I click on "Processes" there is a Kazaa process running.

If I click on the process and then "End Process" the Phantom Net Activity ends.

So it seems that even when you close Kazaa and it seems not to be running it IS still running in the background and using up bandwidth.

It is running in the system tray (next to the clock) you'll see an icon, you can click on it (or right click on it I forget) and exit the program. Unless you do this it is still running.

Thnaks for the information. I didn't realise that a "closed" application could actually still be running.
