I heard that they were going to put a hold on SP2 until they could incorporate the latest security hole. Microsoft's website seems to support that view too, as it only has SP1 for downloading
I got it from a ng.
it's a 101 mb download .Just tried it , it timed out on me ,but it does have resume .
I should think so too.

Further to that.
It's now downloading at 3.5kps which equals eight and a half hours to go :lol

Nig, why dont you wait for it to be on a cover disc mate? PC Pro usualy put MS service packs on its discs!
It don't matter about the download. I always spend a couple of hours reading the forums ,newsgroups and me e-mail ,entering the comps, finding freebies etc .
It's down to 2.9kps now and up to 9hours 14 mins to go .

Its a good job it resumes mate :lol
Anyone know what wonders sp2 will bring for us? I currently have a dual boot (W95 & W2K) but it might as well not be as W2K is virtually unusable as it stands (hardware incompatibility :()
I bought a new modem (Diamond SupraExpress 56e pro) then hurt my back so can't get under the desk to sort it out! :lol Is this service pack likely to save me a trip under the desk and work with my software modem? There are 4 pcs here so I've got another use for the external one anyway :) I imagine it will only help with future hardware etc. and won't help my problem, anyone know if that's right?
I don't think it will add compatibility. It's up to the harware manufacturers to give us drivers for older stuff. Are you listening Epson .... GT9000 scanner driver please.

Looks like i'll have to keep waiting as the link is dead.
Just spent all day getting my system working after doing a little bit too much tweaking (so unlike me :lol). I'll back it up before putting sp2 on i think.
Nicks right btw the reason stuff doesn't work is because manufacturers can't be ***** to write new drivers. I have an 8 button joypad and can only use 4 buttons 'cause theres no driver.
There are other possibities though if the manufacturer hasn't got a driver.
A)Try a ****4 driver
B)Try a generic driver (included with windows for most stuff)
C)Try a driver for a model with a similar spec for the one you've got.
D)Try a win98 driver (very very rarely works )

I tried all of the above for the scanner. Epson make a driver for the GT8500 and the GT10000 but not the 9000 and they have no plans to do so. Considering that this scanner must have cost upwards of £1000 it really ticks me off.
The win98 driver for my USB scanner (cost about £40) works fine in 2K

BTW the link was down when I tried as well, I got it from somewhere else, just whacked it into google.
Left it installing this morning as I left for work, computers probably blown up by now.

Anyone with a udma 100 motherboard (non abit) should install it to get udma 100 support.

thats hard luck :lol
10 hours? It only took me 6.
Pudds, do you have this problem (http://forum.ud.com/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=001976) or is your UD agent icon where it's suposed to be?

I don't run UD agent anymore. I used to but it got stuck on one thing and wouldn't get any further.:(
Sorry i couldn't help.
Never mind. Just run into that on UD boards.
BTW this new version of UD agent (1.03d) has seen to a lot of overclocked PCs. Machines that worked for over a year without problems and coped with previous version (1.03c) are now popping left, right and center. If you ever needed to know a stern test for overclocked CPU cooling ... ;)

I don't think i'll be running it then. My cpu is allready hitting 67C at full load. Still saves on the heating bills in winter :lol

On the subject of sp2 - mine also says it's corrupt, even after re-downloading it. I'll go to the microsoft one instead of the other one that was posted, now that M$ have made it official!
[EDIT: Argh! There's a small 541KB version! I was d/ling the network installation ]

With regard to manufacturerers not developing drivers for W2K, if you think about it, why should they? If Microsoft want to release a new operating system which is incompatible with older versions, why should hardware manufacturers have to spend loads of money developing new drivers for their older products? I believe this was the view that H-P took when W95 first came out, so Microsoft wrote all the drivers for the older H-P printers.
