BILLING SCAM IS ON CARDS AT AOL
AOL is again being targeted by (fairly) sophisticated scam merchants trying to con credit-card details from their less-suspecting users.
Thanks to the several kelly's i readers who emailed us to warn about this latest effort, which arrives as an email claiming to be from AOL billing.
And it's a good imposter. It asks you for new credit card information, providing a form to fill in with the card you currently use and a new card for payment.
Fill it in, of course, and next month you'll think you've been sent Elton John's Visa bill by mistake.
Like previous scams exposed here, the makers have gone to some trouble to make the page look convincing - real AOL logos and working links to the ISP giant.
But the flaws, including several simple spelling mistakes, should be spotted quickly enough by anyone with enough brain cells to hold a credit card in the first place. (c) Mirror Media
