I know Gina is using Feisty Fawn ,is anyone else using it ? are there any / Many bugs in it .I am still on Dapper because I wanted to give them a bit more time to iron out any bugs .From what I keep reading though it would appear to be a vast improvement on Dapper . A lot of extra things included to save a lot of command lines. I am itching to try though so your thoughts would be welcome .

Mind you I am still making discoveries in Dapper .
It has so much in it that is not immediately obvious . A real voyage of discovery.
Bill Gates Watch out Ubuntu will soon be snapping at your heels .

I`ve got Dapper running on one machine and Edgy on the laptop.
I could do with making my laptop Ubuntu partiton a bit bigger and if that goes well (going to try it with gparted) I`ll put Feisty on.

I have both Feisty and Dapper installed on this desktop. Actually 2 lots of Feisty - one is my main OS and the other for checking out my HowTo's. Oh and there's still Win XP too :lol

I have found several improvements in Feisty over Dapper. I have found no problems with Feisty so far. Far from being "new" it seems well debugged already - I've found it very reliable and I'm happy to recommend it. If you have enough HD space you could create new partitions for installing Feisty - leaving your Dapper system intact. Ubuntu will give you a multi-boot menu with all available OSs listed including several Ubuntu systems if you have them. I'm in the process of writing about partitioning and installing Ubuntu Feisty, but I haven't finished yet. I'm uploading the extra bits as I write them.

The website is coming on quite well with many newbie sections already written. I have included screenshots of the partitions on this desktop and my laptop. Will be adding similar from my old desktop shortly and writing the explanations for the various ways Ubuntu can be installed viz. Using whole HD, using spare partition and resizing a current partition (including Windows) to make space. You may find what's already there helpful or wait for more text :) That's if you need any help :) Website URL is in my sig.

I've found GParted very good Trev :) Very easy to use and the mix of GUI and text is good IMO.

I shall be adding info on installing new versions of Ubuntu while keeping the old and also haw to create a separate /home partition to give both access to the same user data and app setup. OTOH Feisty will import Documents and Settings from existing Ubuntu versions (as well as Windows or other OS - one upgrade in Feisty over previous versions). Oh and also editing the bootup menu to change the sefault boot OS.

Sorry if the old adage about grandmother and eggs applies :lol

This (http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/partitioning) is a very good article about partitioning for Ubuntu, and in all honesty, I don't think I can improve on it. :) All I can add is screenshots of GParted.

That psychocats fella is cool. Its a must have site that. I like his install scripts for the latest firefox and thunderbird.
In fact I`ve used quite a few things off his site.

Good :) Remember though, that if you have saved stuff in your /home folder/dir your new installation will overwrite this if you reuse the partition containing Dapper - unless you have already created a separate partition for /home. Either back up or (and) create a new partition for Feisty. Let me know if you'd like any help. :)

BTW Just added a bit more to my HowTo website (http://members.aol.com/ginalinux/) :)

Cheers Gina just had another look at your howto website and I can see some progress I can see it will be very useful when I do Upgrade .At the moment I am debating whether to leave Dapper there and install Feisty on a small blank partition of 20GB. thinking about finding a few more GB from somewhere .

Linux-wise 20GB is oooodles :lol I'm running mine in around 15GB (8GB on the laptop) and even less where I've got a separate /home partition. On my old desktop I have Feisty and all it's bits installed on an 8GB drive. 4 or 5GB is quite sufficient generally particularly if you store data separately.

I would recommend installing Feisty in a new partition - leaving your existing Dapper untouched. You can then access all your Dapper files from Feisty. Feisty will detect Dapper and provide the opition to boot from it as well as Feisty (and Windows if you've still got it).
