I've been trying various Linux distros and find that in general there is not a lot of difference. The main difference is that some use Gnome and some KDE but within those two camps, little difference. PCLinuxOS which uses KDE as starting point has an improved menu system IMO - though, of course, you can add menus anyway and configure things how you like them.

Using a quite different approach is Symphony - it uses transparent windows rather than drop-down (or raise-up) menus, in groups that are selected by clicking in the corners of the desktop. Three sets plus Trash.

I shall be trying more distros as time goes on (I like fiddling with Linux) and may write a personal comparison later.
