Does anyone know how to insert an "umlaut" into a German word typed into a MS Works document or spreadsheet?
Help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi Stuart, and welcome :)
Look in the MS works helpfile for special characters, or windows for the same. I don't use Windows, but I am sure there is a keyboard shortcut that brings up a special character index and you can just click on the one you want (from memory)

Or I think there's an Accessory prog that gives you the complete character set to choose from - think it's called "Character Map" or something like that. It's over a year since I used Windows much and I haven't got it on this computer.

Yes Gina, you are right, a quick google shows the special character map is reached by cliking on Start, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Accessories. Click System Tools, and then click Character Map.
I am sure the character you are after should be there.

Many thanks to Gina and Sarah for your prompt replies - I found the umlaut for all necessary letters in Windows Special Characters, so my problem is now nicely solved.
Thanks again, and God bless you both.
Stuart.

On a Windows PC, hold down the Alt key and type the following numbers from the numerical keypad (right-hand end of keyboard - with Num Lock on).
ä = Alt 132 Ä = Alt 142 ö = Alt 148 Ö = Alt 153 ü = Alt 129 Ü = Alt 154
ß = Alt 225
Nicked from somewhere else ;)
(The required symbol appears after you have released the ALT key)
