Check for new mail - time?

Hi,

I have my email client set up to check for new emails every 10 minutes which under normal circumstances is fine.

But the other day I was waiting for an important email that I knew was about to be sent so I manually checked every minute or so.

So my question is what is considered to be the best time gap to leave between checking.

Maybe a slightly random question but I was just wondering.:)

I have mine set to check every 5 minutes I think, which is more than enough. I know some folks who only check their email once a week... and still dont reply for another week. Depends on your job and how 'connected' your friends are I guess as to how important it is you know when you've got a mail.

What is this 'email' thing of which you speak? :) But seriously, I'm always being told I don't check mine often enough.
