After a couple of weeks messing about I've finally got another dual doot system up and running .
Problem .
I saved all the interesting stuff to a partition on drive D.now I want to copy it back into w2k [deleted during instalation]
I used to be user 1 on the old system . Now I'm administrator.
I've copied the favourites and desktop back but it won't let me copy the cookies file back .I'm guessing that it's 'cos the cookies all start with 1.

Also , I know i can overwrite the cookies under the other os , but why do I get the message "Cannot copy index: the requested operation cannot be performed on a file with a user-mapping section open "

When you select the files to copy do you select the index.dat file as well?
You can't overwrite the current one because it is in use.

Is there a way he could do it from the DOS prompt Pudds? I'm not very skilled at the DOS prompt, but have done things there when I can't do 'em in Windows.

You could boot up in msdos and delete the index.dat file but not while your in windows.
It would be easier simply not to copy it across. It won't affect how the cookies work.
