View Full Version : Problems when I click on a link
Virtually every time I click on a link I get this annoying box pop up telling me "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. Internet Explore caused an Invalid page fault". This is then followed by another pop up box saying "An error has occurred in Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer will now close".
If I click on "Details" it comes up with a whole bunch of stuff that is meaningless to me, such as
IEXPLORE caused an invalid page fault in
module CRS32.DLL at 0167:015e86b2.

If I copy and paste the link it doesn't happen, it only occurs when I click on the link.
Does anyone know what I can do to correct this?
(Any answers please in non-techie jargon)
Thanks.

Hi Joe, :)
There can be many reasons for this - ah the wonders of Bill Gates ;)
Firstly it can be down to other programs running in the background. Do you have Mcafee Anti Virus by any chance? Any AV or other running utility can cause problems with IE. Have you tried shutting things down before surfing? You can do this by right clicking on the taskbar to the right and choosing exit on the programs there. Then press ctrl+alt+del and click on end task to all running programs that will show up in a new box window APART FROM explorer and sys tray.
Try that, but I would also like to ask if you have a firewall? You must activate your firewall before going on the net if so, so don't close that down.
Secondly, for some reason, IE sometimes seems to corrupt video drivers - try re-installing a new video driver, or update it. You can re-install a new one by going to
START - CONTROL PANEL - DEVICE MANAGER - then choose monitors, click on properties and then go to driver details and click on update driver and follow the wizard (instructions) through. This has worked for some people, it also seems to corrupt video drivers through Java on the net too for some reason. If this doesn't work I would suggest trying to update your driver from the internet but try this first.
For an easier way to close your programs down there is a neat utility called *end it all* which is a lot faster and you can protect the things you want to keep active.
It is available here:
http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/stories/info/0,,0011NB,.html
and it VERY simple to use!
I will post again later with more ideas but I am tired now and need some more sleep. Try these simple steps first to see if it improves, and I am sure others will post more ideas :)
Hope this helps

You have recently installed some software that contains spyware. It is from a company called gratisware.
Go to http://www.gratisware.com/Gratisware.nsf/htmlmedia/opt-out.html
and download the program and run it. This will remove the gratisware and internet explorer should now run fine.
Pudds, you have no idea how grateful I am - I owe you a large one! :D
I've been trying for months to get rid of that Gratisware thing. The closest I got was Webwasher, but that was a bit hit & miss. It never occurred to me that this problem started around the same time as the Gratisware ads started appearing. I remember posting in the old forum but got no advice on how to remove Gratisware. It's a dreadful invader!
Anyway, I've downloaded the uninstaller and everything's back to normal. :)
Thanks a million :D :D :D :D

Gratisware is a PITA - I knew it would be down to either some proggie running in the background or video drivers - I should have known about gratisware as I had problems myself with it!
Thanks Pudds for the link to the uninstaller, although I deleted gratisware a while ago via other methods, it will be one to keep on a disk for the future, as I was unaware that there was a specific uninstaller for it ;)
BTW Furby/Sarah, thanks for the tip about *end it all* - it's a neat little proggie :D
