That's the little orange box that's supposed to go "beep beep" when it gets call waiting signals when you're using dial-up. You either choose to ignore them, in which case you stay connected to the internet, same IP address and everything (although you may need to configure modem to do "ATS10=255" which I HAVE done), or, you just pick up the phone and talk to whoever is calling you.
But it doesn't work! Sometimes, the modem just hangs up and the phone rings. Other times, I haven't noticed the IA510 going beep, but have discovered later that a call came through because a message was taken by Call Minder. The thing is turned on, though, the light comes on, and the buzzer works, I can tell because it buzzes when I pick up the phone.
Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong? Or does anyone know of any external modems with this functionality built in? Thanks. :)
