Thanks .... that's a useful start. Must admit, I was half hoping that there would be a chance of me just wandering into my local Dixons or PCWorld and saying "Can I have a remote control for my PC to play MP3's and DVD's please?" and actually getting one, complete with software, for less than fifty quid (although could go up to a hundred at a push, I think).
It still goes way over my head at the moment, but I'm aware that the term "remote control" for PC's is also used to mean things like TCP/IP remote control, as well as just infra-red remote control. And, of course, TCP/IP remote control is a polite word for things like SubSeven and NetBus! There's no way I'm going to pay fifty quid for something like a trojan. :)
Is there absolutely anyone at all who has got a remote control?
Failing that, I suppose a fairly robust infra-red minature keyboard will do. Or even one that just uses ordinary cables .... because you won't have to replace batteries for that. I just want a way of controlling MP3's and DVD's from my sofa which isn't as bulky as a full size keyboard, and isn't as awkward as a mouse on your jeans!

trackball instead of a mouse solves the awkwardness problems :)
In my case it solves the "too much clutter on the desk to move the mouse" problem :lol

Yeah, the point about TCP/IP remote control was really just a random thing thrown in. The point I was making is that if you try to use search engines to find remote controls, then this is the kind of irrelevant stuff you have to wade through. :(
Not going to give up on this one yet though. :)
